The forklift is an essential piece of machinery in most companies which operate distribution centers, warehouses, industrial and storage handling facilities. This wonder equipment, the lift truck is constructed of various parts, like the important carriage, the engine, the power source and the wheels. Forklifts generally have a range of attachments as well. The following are a few of the most important forklift parts.
Forklift Engine - At the back of the machine, the forklift has its power source. The various kinds of engine on the lift truck would require varying power sources. Like for instance, a forklift with an IC engine could have as its power source any of the following: CNG gas, LP gas, diesel or gasoline. Electric motor forklifts receive their power from a battery or fuel cells.
Frame of The Truck - The truck frame is the base of the lift truck and the most important of all the forklift parts. This forms the core of the machinery. All other components of a forklift are attached to the base, like for example the counterweight, overhead guard, mast, wheels and axles. Fuel and hydraulic fluid tanks can be part of the frame assembly also.
Counterweight Lift Truck Components - the counterweight is what allows the machinery to be balanced while lifting heavy cargo. This component is made of heavy cast iron and is connected to the rear-end of the lift truck. The counterbalance balances the truck frame in order to prevent it from tipping over when a load is being lifted or carried on the front. The heavy lead-acid battery in an electric forklift offers balance and may function as part of the counterweight.
The Cab Area - The cab is also known as the operator compartment. Lift trucks will sometimes have closed cabs while others would be open to the air. There are a lot of components situated in the cab for operating the forks. The cab has such important parts as the steering wheel, operator controls, seats, pedals, switches and levers. The dashboard contains operator readouts.
