The forklift is a material handling device utilized to lift and transport loads from one place to another. Every forklift part has a specific function. Different parts could be utilized to move the load horizontally or vertically.

Mast
The components used to lower and lift the load is called the forklift mast. There are different types of masts for raising loads to different heights: triplex, quad, simplex and duplex.

Power Supply
There are four different ways you could power a forklift: gas, electric, propane and diesel. The battery is located within the cab underneath the seat. The propane tank is on the back of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is underneath the back of the truck.

Cab
The forklift cab is situated in the center of the truck. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the informational gauges and controls. The steering wheel, gas pedal, lifting controls, tilting controls and brake are all situated within the cab.

Frame
The frame of the truck carries all the largest parts of the forklift, like the counterweights, which are situated at the rear so as to prevent the truck from tipping when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard that protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the wheels, driveshaft and axles.
