Lift Truck Parts in More Detail
A lift truck is constructed from numerous components. The main components that make up a lift truck are the frame of the truck, the engine parts, the overhead guard, the tilt cylinders and the wheels. Moreover, a forklift consists of different types of attachments. All the parts making up a lift truck are all important since they work together to make the functions of the equipment possible. The following paragraphs describe in detail a few of the forklift components.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the forklift truck's metal roof. It sits over the cab area and protects the machine operator whilst he or she is sitting and driving. The overhead guard makes sure that nothing falling from above onto the truck would damage the controls inside the cab or injure the driver. The overhead guard is essential to the frame assembly on several models.
The Mast - the mast is a vertical assembly made of interlocking rails and mounted either to the forklift frame or the front axle. The mast provides lateral stability and allows the forks to move upwards and down. The interlocking rails could either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are two ways the mast may be operated: chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor or hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders.
Forklift Carriage - The carriage is the component that the forks and various other types of attachments are mounted to. The carriage is in fact directly connected to the hydraulic cylinder and is attached by chains. To allow the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage can have either bushings or rollers to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - While the carriage is raised to full height, there is a back rest made of metal which keeps a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either welded or bolted on to the carriage.
Forklift Attachments - a range of attachments could be fixed to the front of the lift truck. The most common type of attachment is forks. In addition, there are rotators, rollers, L-shaped members, roll clamps, pole handlers and so on. These different kinds of attachments are really handy for moving different kinds of loads.
